Under Rex Famitangco, Morrill County Community Hospital’s Clinical Laboratory was awarded the COLA Laboratory Excellence Award for two consecutive inspection cycles

Famitangco, MS, MLS(ASCP)CM QLC, MT(AMT), Laboratory Administrative Director of Morrill County Community Hospital and Phlebotomy Technician & Medical Laboratory Assistant Program Director & Instructor of Western Nebraska Community College, has been recognized by Cambridge Who’s Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in laboratory compliance, quality management systems and laboratory information systems management.
In his role as Laboratory Administrative Director, Rex F. Famitangco’s responsibilities are numerable: he manages and directs laboratory professionals for administrative, technical and general supervision; oversees day-to-day operations of the clinical laboratory and point of care testing; oversees day-to-day operations of the Clinical Laboratory and directs compliance with laboratory Accrediting Agencies for example COLA and CMS-State of Nebraska. Under his leadership, the hospital laboratory has been awarded the COLA Laboratory Excellence Award for two consecutive inspection cycle for achieving a perfect score in a rigorous on-site laboratory survey, for meeting all COLA important and required criteria, for demonstrating successful proficiency testing and no valid complaints against the laboratory.
At Western Nebraska Community College, Mr. Famitangco teaches all core courses of the program, supervises applied laboratory learning and clinical experiences, evaluates student achievement, and develops the curriculum. He is also responsible for planning, developing, and evaluating the general effectiveness of the program and compliance with accrediting agencies for example ASCP and NAACLS.
Mr. Famitangco holds a Master of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science degree with a GPA of 4.0 from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology degree from Trinity University of Asia. He also holds graduate certificates inside the Executive Management Program, Molecular Laboratory Diagnostics and Clinical Flow Cytometry. He is a Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist and holds a Qualification in Laboratory Compliance thru the American Society for Clinical Pathology, a Certified Medical Technologist by means of American Medical Technologist, a Registered Medical Technologist by way of the Republic of the Philippines’ Specialist Regulation Commission, a Licensed Limited Radiographer by way of the State of Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services, a Certified Breath Alcohol Technician Instructor and Collector, and Certified Urine Drug Screen Collector and Instructor, through Western Pathology Consultants.
He is really a member of the following prestigious organizations: Nebraska Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Management Association, American Society for Clinical Pathology, American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, American Medical Technologists, and American Society of Radiologic Technologists.
For his efforts and achievements, Mr. Famitangco was awarded the Medical Technologist Excellence Award by the Nebraska Society of Clinical Laboratory Science in 2009, and he is the seven-time recipient of a Certificate of Excellence for Continuing Education from the American Medical Technologists Institute for Education. Mr. Famitangco was a featured laboratorian for COLA’s 20th Anniversary Campaign and Advance Magazine for administrators of the laboratory. He received scholarships from Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics and Mendoza College of Organization, University of Notre Dame through the Clinical Laboratory Management Association. He attributes his good results to his education, function experience and the support he receives from his family and colleagues.
